Over the last few years, our church has come to love the Sunday School curriculum from Children Desiring God. We have used their God-centered material in several formats including Sunday School, Children’s Church, Nursery, and the Wednesday night children’s ministry. I am personally very glad to promote Children Desiring God. Our kids (and Sunday School teachers) have discovered the Glory of God through this material.
The “ABC’s of God” is a 40 lesson curriculum designed for 1st – 3rd grade Sunday School. Although it can be adapted a little for age in either direction. It uses different letters to teach the character of God. The official description says:
Right thinking about God is essential for the life of faith. Using the alphabet as a framework for teaching the attributes of God, this study explores the delight that God has in Himself as the source, means, and purpose of all things. Each lesson asks and answers three key questions, “Who is God?” “What is He like?” and “How should I act toward Him?” as it presents a theology of God for children.

Our small church plant has been using the same (free) curriculum for our children’s ministry since we started two years ago because of budget issues. This fall we will have to repeat year one for all the kids. It would be such a blessing to have a new quality curriculum about God’s attributes for the 1st to 3rd grade. I just recently began working the children in a small Southern Baptist Church that is financially strapped at this time. During our recent Wednesday night class, all but 2 of the children present admitted they were either lost or confused and not 100% sure they were saved. I believe this material would be a wonderful program for the children to go through and hopefully see the true love of Christ and either accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior or to grow in their relationship so they are no longer confused.

Like the majority of the people entering this contest, our church is also a small church on a tight budget. I am currently working on a curriculum by putting together material from free Christian-based websites which have truly been a blessing. To win this special curriculum, would be more than awesome, but mostly, I give thanks to those that have taken the time and energy to post their websites and make information available to us. Putting together a curriculum is a lot of work but it’s HIS children and ours, and they’re worth it!

This is exactly what I have been looking for to energize my children’s church curriculum, and to begin a children’s bible study in a local mobile home park.
I wonder if the book deals with many of the attributes that are left out when many “conservative” pastors preach/teach about the attributes of God? e.g. consuming fire, jealous God (Deu 4:24); jealous, avenging, and wrathful (Nahum 1:2); etc.

I read the reviews for this curriculum last week and wanted to order it, but I know there is no way it will get board approval because of cost. I have been writing my own material for the past 5 years, (and teaching it nearly every Sunday for as long too) and am having a hard time finding volunteers because they want everything done for them… I have been looking for a more out-of-the-box material, but I refuse to sacrifice biblical content for entertainment. My husband would like me to sit with him for the sermon every now and then.

Our church is two years old and we are just developing our children’s ministry.

I teach a 3rd – 6th grade Bible class at a small Christian School. This past year I used the “To be like Jesus” curriculum. I loved it….so did the kids. Just seeing the number of people who commented, the quality of their comments and their worthiness to be encouraged by your gift is inspiring. I teach a small, but mighty, group of preschoolers and kindegartners. We are currently using David and Sally Michael’s curriculum. I would love to use the ABCs with them, as well as with my own children who will be attending public school for their first two years until we can send them to a good Christian school nearby.
Our church is beginning a new Sunday School program and CDG is one of only two curriculum that we are considering. It is certainly Word centered and appears very teacher friendly. The people at CDG have been very helpful to our church in advice and resources thus far. Christ and His word exalting material is so very hard to find today, that why it’s great to be able to rely on the reputation of CDG without having to evaluate every lesson ourselves.
We are a new church plant who felt that the Lord has led us to a somewhat run-down area of town to minister to the wonderful neighbors there. The curriculum would be very helpful to us in our children’s ministry planning and implementation.

While I would love for everyone who desires to see children come to a Christ and gain a solid foundation in the truth, I recognize only one church can win. I would love for our church to win. But the Lord’s will be done. I have recently been selected as a deacon of our church and one topic of discussion at the first deacon’s meeting was the need for new curriculum for our children. Children Desiring God was the only curriculum specifically suggested for us to look at further. This would certainly be an answer to prayer, but I am sure that if we do not win, God still has the right answer to our prayer. May the Lord be magnified regardless of who wins.

Oh how wonderful it would be to win this curriculum for our church’s children, We are a new ministry in Pennsylvania with very little funds for this type of thing and the kids pretty much out number the adults and they desperatly need a program to teach them about our Saviour. I am new to children’s ministry although I have been a high school teacher for the past 4 years. I teach ages 4-6 in a church that is a church plant. We do not have our own building yet and are renting a couple rooms in a building. We do utilize the resources from our parent church but I’m finding that the materials are not age appropriate nor are they helpful towards adapting for the age of children I teach. I would say that they are geared more towards 4th through 6th graders and not ages 4-6. Please help!
