"Cupcake" Bible Object Lessons for Kids

Print Friendly and PDF

cupcake-lessonsWho doesn’t love a cupcake? This delectable treat is inexpensive and it’s the perfect item to use as an object lesson for kids ministry. Cupcakes are great for a holiday lesson or any time of the year. Prepare a batch of cupcakes or if you don’t enjoy baking (like me) you can cheat and purchase some from your local bakery. Of course, if you’re going to use a cupcake object lesson, you need to have enough to go around after the lesson.
Fake Out: This object lesson is a total fake out! Instead of yellow cupcakes, use corn muffins. Ice the corn muffins with white frosting before class. You can also add sprinkles or other decorations. Yummy! (Or so kids think!) Show the class the cupcake and talk about how delicious it looks. (Really talk it up!) Invite a volunteer to come taste your cupcake. When the discover it tastes wrong, explain that you must have mixed up the cupcakes with corn muffins. Read the children this Bible verse: “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean.” Matthew 23-27. Explain that God wants us to look good on the inside too, not just on the outside.
Sweet Words: Bring enough cupcakes for everyone in the class. With a tube of icing, write “God’s words,” on the top of the cupcakes. Before you share the cupcakes with the kids, read this verse: “How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” Psalm 119:103 Talk about how sweet cupcakes nourish our tummies and make our taste buds happy but God’s Word feeds our soul with lasting nourishment. Invite kids to share their favorite Bible verses.
