This Easter we are using Easter Sunday to bring our parents to the children's department. They will join us for some music, a lesson, craft, and prayer. This is part of an effort to bring the children and parents together during their church experience. The classes for kindergarten to 5th grade will combine as one group.
I am excited to see how God will use our efforts to encourage parents in their role as primary pastor to their children!

We're doing a Passover Seder meal. We will sample the foods that were eaten at the Passover meal and explain those foods meanings in the meal.

Preschool:
They are having an "Empty" Egg Hunt. Everyone can find 1 egg. They are not to open it until everyone has one. Surprise...no treat. I promise them we will fill them with treats later. Then, I get out the Jack-in-the Box. Make a big deal about when it pops out...Surprise! Now we talk about when Jesus died on the cross, was buried in the tomb/cave, and 3 days later...surprise! Jesus is alive!
Everything is centered around "Jesus is Alive".

I'm still working out the details. Job #1 is to plan for the crowd, we don't have too much spare capacity in our children's church area.

Job #2 is getting the Easter story across in repeated ways. I'm going to read from the Jesus Stroybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones. I also have some a video clip from GodTube called Easter Story - The Bible Experience.

Plus our normal slate of worship and Bible memory games, but the focus is more on the meaning of the resurrection.

We are cutting the shape of Jesus out of a piece of plywood. I will have the kids try and "fill" the hole. Showing (I hope) that only Jesus can save us, he is the only one who fits. and that without him, there is a hole in our lives. no eggs, no bunnies. We may pass a toy lamb around and have the kids mark it with sharpies (red, blue & purple(blood & bruises) for sins that they have done. check my blog after Sunday for pics.

I will be teaching the children about The Last Supper, Jesus Crucifixion and His Resurrection. We never had the Easter Egg Hunt but it sounds fun. I'm planning on doing something special though.

Great question! I'd love to hear more of what others doing, too.
We made a bold decision to ix-ney our annual Easter Egg Hunt. There are dozens of them all over town, and ours was modest in comparison. We've re-routed those resources to a new parenting class that will run for 8 weeks just after Easter. (strategically to offer something for new families!)
We're meeting as a large group on Easter Sunday (first time!) for a Children's Resurrection Celebration of worship, and we'll also have a time for kids to ask Jesus to be their Forever Friend.
I'm super excited about teaching these kids what a joyful day this is; that Jesus has set us free, and that we can sing, dance and have fun in God's presence.

While we are doing some easterish things, such as a small egg hunt, my main priority is to remind the kids that Jesus loves them, he is resurrected and alive, and that they can have a relationship with him. Our worship, crafts, games, and Bible story will all point to this aim. Plus I will invite those who are ready to commit their lives to Jesus.
