Charlie,
Our church is blessed with a great facility for the size of our congregation. We have a nice technology set-up in children's church, a custom playground and a few acres for Upward Soccer.

I do see Brenna's point and we've had to fight the building-matter-more-than-people attitude that creeps up on everyone.

Thanks for writing this post. It's a good issue to bring up.

I really respect this outward focus and expect that you see a lot of people in your ministry that would never come into a church building. Thanks again for adding some balance to our site.

Brenna,

Please do not think that I am suggesting that to put money into facilities is to forget about those outside of the church. In fact, one of the best ways to reach young couples and children is to have a safe, clean, and fresh Children's area. You don't have to spend mega bucks do have that either. I'm a firm believer that everything that we do in Children's ministry should be done in excellence, however "excellence" will differ from church to church.

I can't imagine how tough it is to do Children's ministry week after week in a rented building!

What facilities?? Our church meets each Saturday night ...yes, Saturday night... in rented facilities. This is often a very common arrangement, especially in regions outside of the south. Yes, sometimes we lose people's interests because we don't have our own facilities but the faithful attenders we have each week have gotten over this idea. They are ok with renting from another church, holding worship on an alternate day, and being creative with our home Bible study times and fellowships. Sometimes it would be nice to have our own facility but then we would forget that we are supposed to be out in the field, not tied to a building!
