Arriving to take a children's meeting (at the invitation of a church which wasn't our own) and discovering that the tote bag that had all the visuals in contained what we had prepared for a youth meeting later in the week. (Same colour bag as the kidmin one!!)

Always a strong story-teller, my colleague Catherine manfully soldiered on and told a wonderfully dramatic Bible story, gripping the children with her gestures, facial expressions and vocal gymnastics!
The other elements of the meeting were with us - visualized songs, review game, guitar and accordian. But this event showed us that, important as visuals are, it is the story-telling skills which need to be honed and whioch are in the end the most effective vehicle for the teaching.
I guess Catherine had become the visual aid herself!

Time for a little levity here in the forums (and perhaps an element of confession). So, what was your most embarrassing moment related to children's ministry?

The more people who share, the better we will all feel! :)

The seeding process was fun. I started with the statistics of the "starred" items in my Google Reader. This gave me a good idea of who has been really strong over the last 30 days. Then I made a list of all 104 feeds, from that I cut and paste some into a "top contenders list," then more into an "automatic bid" list and then the rest were the bubble.

I was able to discover some broken feeds, and ruled out many blogs with no updates in the last few months.

The final product is fun, but I think social media reach will give some of the top seeds a real boost. Several of those guys are #kidmin rock stars on Twitter.

I love Jesus because of who He is. He is the Son of God and it is through Him that I have the privilege to be a joint heir in the Kingdom of God. It is because I understand that Jesus is God, I am eternally grateful for my existence, His grace, mercy and love. I seek to reciprocate my love for Jesus with my efforts to be obedient, faithful, and true to His teachings. The relationship we have is like no other and its good.

Tony,

I'm not sure what the seeding will mean. Depends on how you do things I guess. Regardless, I think you nailed the top 16. The only one's I might move up based on my experience with them would be:

FreeCMStuff - Andy's posts are not the longest, but the resources he unearths are great. I find his blog to be one of the more practical that I visit.

Kidmin360.com - I like the blog, but it is relatively new so maybe it does warrant a lower seed.

I was glad to see SmallTownKidmin seeded where you have them. I just recently discovered the blog, but it is quickly becoming a personal favorite.

Thanks for putting this all together. I can't imagine the time that goes into it.

Any debate about the top four seeds in each division? Anything look way off?

"What is an NCAA tournament? I'm not familiar with that expressions."

In the states, it is the national college basketball championship.

On Sunday, 65 college team will be selected to play in the tournament and they play a single game elimination to get paired down to the championship game. It's also called March Madness. Usually really good basketball.

I'm sure Tony will explain how this will work.

It looks intriguing, but I have a few questions.

1) What is an NCAA tournament? I'm not familiar with that expressions.
2) How does one work? Are people paired off in a knockout?
3) How does a site progress in this contest?
4) Am I right in thinking this will be very informative and a lot of fun,as we all read each others blogs - so site traffic will peak??!!

I love Jesus because He loved me, died for me, and saved me from myself. I had a rough upbringing, and I know without the Power of God manifested in my life, I would be dead, or in a mental ward of a hospital somewhere. God was there for me, in my life, when I needed Him the most. He has forgiven ALL my mistakes and sins, loves ME anyway, and has placed within me gifts I try everyday to use and share. For him that is forgiven much, loveth much. Now I do all I can to share Him with others, and to train up the kids at our church to love Him, worship Him, read His Word, and do their best to live for Him. I feel these 5 copies of the Jesus Storybook Bible would go a long way in helping my team and me to reach the children with God's Word. Thanks for all You do!

I love Jesus because he has shown me how to love. Jesus love me when I lived in my own filt, and not good enough to be the dirt under his feet. He has always been with me, even when I was sleeping on the floor and had no place to stay. I always felt his arms around me in the crisis of my life. I have cheated death many of times because of Jesus protection over my life, and it not being time for me to go home to heaven. He answer my prayers, yes when it is good for me and no when it would harm me. I am nothing without Jesus, but with him I can conquer the world. Jesus is my love.

All churches should have some type of child protection policy that covers the supervision and transportation of children. Policy would include class rooms with open doors or uncovered windows, at least two adults present with a single student, at all times (with one adult being the same sex as the student, and policies or steps that the church will take over allegatins of supervision lapses. Background checks, screenings, and interviews of all church youth workers are a must.

I think another trend is "bullying" in general, and some kids feeling conflicted about being a Christian. Sometimes it's not "cool" when a youth is seen as religious. The kids must be taught how to live with conviction. They must have role models. I tell kids to see themselves as leaders with this project. Don't be ashamed to be right. The ways of the world are not the ways of the religious. We role play with the kids on how to evangelize to others.

I recently played faith bingo. My lesson was on faith, then we played faith bingo. Place "faith" as your heading, instead of "bingo". Print numbers F 1-24, TO h 1-24 (free spot in te middle-a cross). When someone wins, they yell, "I have faith". Our kids like andy prizes or those inexpensive ribbons or medals with "winner" or #1 on them.

I love Jesus because his word provides a road map for how to treat others. When, I follow his instructions I'm less selfish, more loving, and more caring, about others. I love Jesus because he's taught me that personal success should never be measured by the amunt of money or land that one has. Jesus wants us to measure our success by the degree of which we have been of service to others. I love Jesus because he saved me.

I think this is great. One of the things that really got me into following blogs in the first place was when I found your old March Madness tournament that you did on your other blog at the time (was it SBC Voices?). Anyhow, I think it will be fun to see it with a kidmin twist. I suppose I need to plan some shameless self-promotion now? :)

I'm working on a really fun & massive contest for all kids ministry bloggers. I'm going to launch it this Sun/Mon. But I wanted to give forum readers a sneak peak. It will basically work like an NCAA tournament, but with readers voting on who moves on to the next round.

NOTE: This is my draft ordering, some lower seeds will change before Sunday.

I welcome your feedback on the seeding, but it's going to be subjective. This is the best of the 100+ feeds in our blog list. You can see my more editorial ranking from a few months back 10 ten rankings

This will be different because the voters will decide.

I love Jesus because he has liberated me to do so. Sin kept, and still does hold my mind and affections on myself, but Jesus' life, death, and resurrection free me to love sacrificially.

I realized the other night what this love that Jesus has for us is like. I thought to the time my wife carried my oldest daughter, Sarah. I used to talk to her in my wife's belly, sing to her, and massage her. Sarah used to respond to me. She jumped and moved when she heard my voice. I realize now I loved her before she was born. I didn't know, or care what she looked like, sounded like, or even if she was 'imperfect'. I loved her.
In that same way Jesus loved us. He knows the numbers of hair on our head, and the days of our lives. He loved us from the beginning. That is what I love about Jesus. He loved us before we were born.

There are waaaaaaaay too many reasons why I love my Jesus for me to list, but here are a few.....
He loved us so much that He sacrificed His life for us, He has taken care of me through many years of straddling the fence, He is my best friend and soul-mate, and He promised me that He would never leave me or forsake me!

I love Jesus because he is the Word made Flesh. He came and dwelt among human beings like me...yet he still loves me! He has seen my sin and my heart (the things everyone else would run away from if they knew)...yet he still loves me! He bore my sins and gave me his righteousness & grace when there is no way I could have ever deserved it...The whole Bible points to his saving work for sinners like me (and that's why I love that Jesus Storybook Bible so much, too!) Blessings to all of you for what you do for all the little children he loves so much!

I love Jesus because of who He is. He loves when when I'm happy and when I'm down. He has been with me when I have walked in the valley or have stood on the mountain tops. There are so many ways He has seen me through good and bad. I want to be able to share my love for Him and His love for us with my little ones at church. I never thought when I accepted Him as my Savior so many yeas ago that I would become a minister and be going for a Master's degree in religious ed. Only He knows the way we will go.

I have this little book. It is a great resource and packed with creative ideas.
One that I will be using is the story of Jesus washing the disciples feet. The twist is giving all the each kid a wet wipe and having them to wash each others hands and tell something they will do to serve someone else in the coming week.

I love Jesus because He is the Great I AM! There have been several times in my life that accidents have happened that because of Jesus I am whole! Our son fell out of the back of a truck going down the road at 45 mph and 2 days later he was as if nothing had ever happened to him!I don't love Jesus because of what He has done for me but because of who He is! He is my purpose in life and my destiny is heaven! He took a girl that was shy and couldn't talk out loud for fear of embarrassment and made her a Children's Pastor. Jesus is my everything!! I will not turn back, turn around, give up or give in!

I love Jesus because I can totally trust him to take care of me, my children and all those who come to him. He answers prayer and is with me during my best and worst times.
