Can anyone tell me an easy way to teach my kids the books of the Bible in order? We are working on that and they are having a hard time.
Books of the Bible memorization

Hi phurst,
Learning the books of the Bible as a song is the best way I've found to memorize them. For the New Testament I use a tune that I've found on itunes by Cedarmont Kids, from the album "Toddler Bible Songs." Itunes has several versions of the Old Testament books too, although the tune I prefer doesn't seem to be on there (and I can't identify the tune I use.) But learning them in song will make short work of them, usually. Someone else may have a better source for the books set to music. Hope that helps!Posted 11 months ago # -
Cedarmont Kids has one for the Old Testament too. I think there is a song they use in the Awana programs, but I could be wrong about that. I recently found one by Go Fish on a DVD our Children's Ministry Director lent to me. It must be catchy because my 2-yr-old was trying to sing it! If I'm being honest, by the way, I still find myself singing through the Cedarmont Kids New Testament song when I'm thumbing through my Bible looking for a particular book. :)

I agree with the music as that is the method I am using. Children love to sing and it is amazing how quickly they learn the words to songs so I thought I would give this method a try and it works.

I posted a video on the blog of a Books of the Bible Song, but at our church we mainly memorize them by brute repetition. When kids can learn 5 each week and practice every week, they pick them up with only a few minutes of drill time.

That is what we are doing Tony 5 each week then add 5 more and so forth. I do like the song version and have trying to find it because children do tend to learn faster with songs and physical actions.

We have recently had our grade 1-6's memorize the Books of the Bible and would like to share what they've learnt with the entire congregation. We used a couple different songs, a lot of repetition, sword drills etc to memorize them, but we're having a hard time coming up with something creative for in front of the congregation. Any ideas?

At our church, we have the whole group recite the books in front of the congregation. Then we each child an award and call out their names. The people really like it and it is a great encouragement to the kids.

1 of my adult leaders brought to me a list of the Bks of the Bible with hand motions & an explaination of the motions. This helped me & my 3 children learn them in order & get a quick understanding of each book.

The hand motions sounds like a great idea, do you know where they found that? Is it available online?

I am also interested in the hand motions for books of the Bible. And is anyone aware of a VBS curriculum that focuses on the Bible itself - something like The Amazing Book?

Is this what you are talking about?

One of the "Great Worship Songs Kids Praise Band" has two songs on it - Old Testament Hop and New Testament Rock. The kids in my kindergarten-1st grade room love them!

We use B Bopps Bible Moves - it's an old series. Every Winter we teach the kids 5-6 news one each week. Then we have Bible drills & kids face-off against each other to see who knows them. At the end we have 1 big night called "Books of the Bible Party." The kids go from station to station & put them in order by telling a leader, using index cards or telling/hand motions. They earn prizes based on how many sections they know. It's great - this will be our 4th year doing it & they beg for it.

Tatine,
Sounds like a cool idea. Anything you can turn into a game tends to peak their interest!

I have found this page. It looks a good way to learn the books, but some of the actions depend on the kids having been taught the relevant story within the book.
http://ggfusa.org/content/blogsection/8/88/It might help me, though. I came to Christ in adulthood and never had a good memory. So I studied the Bible without really learning all the books in order. So glad of an index in Bibles!
