Great question. The last few years we've had a volunteer choir director for our kids. But I did write a post about finding plays once.

I'd like to encourage you, frosty to pick something that God speaks to you about and trust Him to provide! It's been my experience that parents will bring kids to practice a special program when you can't get them any other time. We normally have maybe 2 children on Wednesday nights, but when I am working with them on the Christmas program we'll have 10-15. It is a challenge when they don't all show up regularly, but God always pulls it together!
God bless and direct you--

I read in the Children's Ministry magazine (Group publishing-an old one) to let the kids sing Christmas carols while you show pictures of them in costume on the power point. It said to show them the pictures ahead of time so they won't want to look back at them. We too do not have a lot of kids on a regular basis (unless it's a party or festival :) -they're prospects!). One Starry night is a real simple Christmas program too. Good luck! God will show what He wants. Also childrens' hand bells (colored ones) are good and easy too and you can also use them all year long. Our kids love it and perform every year at our District Heavenly Star Search.
