Children's Ministry Blog

In all the hubbub of my life, I almost forgot to wish Ministry-To-Children a happy second blog birthday. It’s been an eventful time, and I didn’t always think this site would make it. But after 24 months and 2.5 million page views, I think God has something special for my not-so-little-anymore blog about children’s ministry.

What’s The Story?

Back in 2005, I discovered blogging as a way to connect with other people online with similar interests. After a few false starts, I helped found a student newspaper style blog for my seminary buddies. Not much came out of that, except the skills to create this website.

So, I began sharing what I was learning as a young children’s pastor. When I wrote a letter for our church nursery workers, I posted it on the site. When I checked out VBS curriculum, I wrote what I was thinking. When I taught children’s church, I shared my lesson plans.

Readership started growing right away, but I was only posting about 10 articles per month. A real turning point came when I began to accept advertising on the site. The little bit of income was a big motivation to work harder on writing new content.

I am beginning to understand that God’s plan for the website is much bigger than I first imagined. Several thousand people visit the site everyday, and I am truly humbled and amazed to be in this position.

So Your Blog Is Entering The Terrible Twos?

With kids, development can be predicted and parents have some time to prepare. With blogs, there is no set pattern. Right now, I’ve added four new writers to help boost writing of new posts. I only averaged 10 posts per month the first two years, going forward I want to do that many every week. I’m also working to bring more “industry news” about the different children’s ministry publishers.

Say Happy Birthday In The Comments

You can also make suggestions for the future or just say what you like about the website so far. If you want to make it fun say something on your Facebook, Twitter, or blog.  Either way, thanks for reading and keep praying for this ministry!
