I am glad I found this website! I go to a Christian college and was trying to find ways to teach children how to pray and meditate for a Children's Ministry class I am in and the presentation that is due tomorrow. This helped out a ton! Thanks!

I teach fifth grade Sunday School at my church. My focus has been on prayer requests, praises, and seeing our prayer requests become praises. I encourage the children to write their prayer requests on the dry erase board in red under "prayer requests" and their praises in green under "praises." Each week, we see some of our prayer requests move from red to green--from prayer request to praise! The children are getting excited about this. More are willing to open and close in prayer as they see prayer as real and God's answers as real.

I learned from my mistake! I grouped my Jr. Church kids into small groups and told them to take turns praying, epic failure! I realized kids don't know how to pray naturally and they feel uncomfortable praying out loud (like many adults). The next week I printed small prayers on slips of paper for the children to read aloud. The prayers were for the children and governments in the persecuted countries that we had been studying for several weeks. It was a success, the children didn't want to stop! I hope to continue this with each lesson series (and add a few of the ideas posted here!). I think teaching them to be confident when praying out loud as children will make them confident and powerful prayer warriors as adults.

Shirley;
This sounds like a wonderful study. Any information you could provide, as far as scripture support, or the curriculum would be greatly appreciated. I will be praying for you.

Thank You,

I am beginning a six weeks series in my Children's Church on prayer. We are beginning the series by making a prayer box for each child. In the weeks following we will be making different objects to help kids reflect on their prayer time with God. At the end of our series (which happens to be the beginning of summer break) we will have a Blessing of our Prayer Boxes and then kids can take them home for the summer and if they are away from church they will be encouraged to take their Prayer Box with them. We are also using the ACTS acronym each week. The topics about have been very helpful. Thanks.

I am just about to start an ordered lesson on prayer and this has been a useful resource. But how do you teach a child to make pronouncements that will lead to spiritual liberation of that child, especially when the parents are not Christians?

We are just finishing a ten week session on prayer. We looked at:
1 Why we pray
2 How should we pray
3 The purpose of prayer
4 Does God always answer prayer
5 When God says no
6 Again & again

Our kids have really got involved and even the ones who are really shy have prayed in front of the group! We began by sitting in a circle and just going around the circle giving thanks for one thing that God has done for us. We then made a dice with prayer requests written on such as our church, our families, our schools, our missionaries, the elderly, the sick. Children who wanted to pray would roll the dice and pray for whatever it landed on. We also had popsicle sticks in a jar the children pull one out and pray for whatever it said.
We did a large wall display with God answers kneemail as the title, each child decorated an envelope with their name on it put a prayer request inside and stuck it to the display, each week children take a prayer request from someone elses envelope and pray for them each day. The children have responded really well. If anyone wants further info I am happy to help.
