Toothpaste Bible Object Lessons for Children - Proverbs 15:2
Have an extra tube of toothpaste handy? That’s all you need to demonstrate these two object lessons to your class. Have mini tubes of toothpaste, toothbrushes or dental floss to send home with all your kids for take home goodies. This kind of squishy, teaching aid is sure to capture and keep kids attention.
Put It All Back
Bible verse: “The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.” Proverbs 15:2 NIV
(Place the toothpaste and a paper plate on a table. Choose a volunteer to help you.)
Okay everyone, here’s my volunteer. He’s got a tube of toothpaste in his hands. Show the tube, Joe. (Joe holds up the toothpaste.) When I say, “Go!” you will start squirting all the toothpaste out of the tube. I want to see how fast you can squirt it. Read, set, go! (Cheer Joe on as he squeezes the toothpaste out.) Wow! That was pretty fast. I think you are the fastest squeezer in here. Now, I want you to put it all back. Think you can do that?
Of course you can’t put it back. Once it’s out, it’s out. This reminds me of a Bible verse. It’s Proverbs 15:2. It says, “The tongue of the wise adorns knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.” That basically means that a wise person gives the people who hears him wisdom but foolish people say only foolish things. Once you say something wrong, it’s impossible to put the words back. We need to be careful and considerate before we speak. It’s okay to have fun but don’t let your words come out too fast or else you could end up regretting them.
Three In One
Bible verse: “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” 1 John 5:7 KJV
(You’ll need toothpaste that has three colors of paste. Squirt some paste out on your finger, a plate or a toothbrush.)
Sometimes thinking about how God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus work together can get confusing. Don’t feel bad! Even people who study the Bible all the time don’t agree on how everything works in God’s kingdom. Here’s what we do know, that all three work together. In this Bible verse, Jesus is also called the Word. Look at this toothpaste. You see the three colors? They are all different ingredients but they work together to make your mouth super clean! That’s kind of like how God, the Holy Spirit and Jesus work together to make our hearts clean. They give us everything we need to live the Christian life!
