in Children's Ministry Ideas, Helpful Video Clips

This past Sunday, I taught the story of Joshua and the Battle of Jericho. This children’s church lesson included several fun learning activities. For example, we marched outside and yelled at the church’s storage barn. But the “big church” service was running long, so I had a few extra minutes to review the Bible story. So, I went to my backup video clips and the kids enjoyed 3 short videos that acted out Joshua & Battle of Jericho with Legos.

As with any learning activities, variety is the key. I’ll usually find a good video clip about once per month. The kids always look forward to them and they can create great discussion, especially when they get silly.

What About You?

Where do you find extra activities when church service goes long?

Some of the things we do are games like: “Name That Tune” where I’ll begin to play a well-known hymn or church song and the first to guess it wins, hangman- with words and names from the lesson, and as of late they’ve enjoyed “Name That Drawing” where the first to guess what I’m drawing on the board wins. These games help to make the ime go by faster if the service is going long. I have fun too!

@Tim: Great tips – I think I’ll try “name that drawling” this morning.
