Being born again is central to our Christian faith although it is a concept that is difficult for some to understand. The born again birthday party object lesson will help you teach kids the importance of this event. I relied on these verses to inspire me. You could use them too!
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” (John 3:3)
“How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked. “Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!” (John 3:4)
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. (John 3:5)
What You’ll Need
- Inflated balloons
- A cake or cupcake
- Birthday candles
- Party hats
- Noisemakers
Prepare to Teach
Place all these items in the teaching area so kids can see them. Pass out the party hats but keep the noisemakers until after the object lesson.
Let’s Teach
Who’s birthday is this month? Stand up and let’s sing Happy Birthday to you! Wait! We can leave anyone out. If you had a birthday this year or will have one this year, stand up! (That means everyone should stand!) I’m going to sing Happy Birthday to you all!
Sing Happy Birthday to the kids. Clap for the birthday kids and then ask everyone to sit down. Well that was fun! Birthdays are so special, aren’t they? I wish we had them every month but then that would make us very, very old. Did you know that everyone born into God’s kingdom has two birthdays? Thefirst came when we are born by our mothers, the second birthday is from when we are born again. We don’t have a choice about the first birthday but we do for the second one. Jesus said that unless a man is born again, he would not see the kingdom of God. We have to be born of the Spirit of God.
You might be asking yourself, how do I do that? How can i be born again so I can see the Kingdom of God? It’s simple. Talk to God. Confess your sins and tell Him you want a new birthday. That you want to be born again! He won’t refuse you. The bible says that when one person comes to God there is much rejoicing in the presence of angels. Now that sounds like a heavenly birthday party!
Lead children in a prayer of repentance. Send home birthday cards to anyone who was born again.
