Want an object lesson that they will always remember? Present this magnet object lesson to your kids’ church or Sunday School. It’s a great way to demonstrate important bible verses like Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all time,” and 1 John 4:8, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” The goal is to help kids learn one of two things that to be a true friend, we must show love. The second goal could be that God is love, is made of love and that all people everywhere will be attracted to God’s love.
Magnet Object Lesson
Supplies: Magnets, metal items like pennies, nails and paper clips
Prepare: Place these items on a table where you can access them easily.
Teach: Hey everyone! I’ve got something interest to show you today—magnets. Who knows what magnets do? (Allow kids to answer.) Yes! Magnets attract items and in some cases, it pushes things away. So where do you use magnets? Yes! On the refrigerator, in a garage, in a classroom; these are all places where you would use magnets. I’m going to show you the power of magnets but before I do, let’s read a verse. (Read one of the verses mentioned above.) That’s interesting!
So these magnets are like love! Love attracts people doesn’t it? It’s wonderful to be around people who love you! Let’s pretend that this magnet represents God. He is full of love! (Hold the magnet in your hand.) Let’s see what it attracts. Tap different items to the magnet to see which items stick to it. I wonder what this magnet will pick up? (Try tapping different items to the magnet.) Look at that! God’s magnetic love draws all kinds of people doesn’t it? God’s love doesn’t just draw people who love Him but His love draws sinners to. When we tell people about God’s love, it’s like using a magnet. We draw people to God.
Who here wants to be a magnet for God? How can we show God’s love to them? Maybe share our toys or a snack? Maybe if we tell them we love them? I want to pray for you today. I want to pray that God will make you a magnet for Him.
