Paul’s Shipwreck and Snake Bite
The Battle is the Lord’s Part 6
These crafts tell the story of the apostle Paul and his journey to Rome. God miraculously rescued Paul from a storm at sea and nearly-lethal snake bite, promising that Paul would make it to Rome. These crafts celebrate the remarkable journey and reliability of God’s control. A “Storm-Tossed Ship Plate” helps tell the story with interactive art. A “Pop-up Swirl Snake” recounts the snake bite on Malta. Let’s get crafty!
Craft One: Storm-Tossed Ship Plate
You will need:
- Paper Plates
- Construction paper or cardstock
- Glue, tape, or staples
- Scissors
- Popsicle sticks
- Decorative elements as desired (Stickers, straws, etc.)
- Markers or crayons
Procedure:
1. Decorate the back of the plate to resemble a storm (this can be done with pop-out elements for clouds and rain, or just markers).
2. Cut out waves and glue them onto the plate.
3. Add verses or captions if desired.
4. Use paper or cardstock (and optional toothpick or straw “mast”) to create a boat. Attach the boat to a popsicle stick.
5. Cut a slit in the back of the plate. Insert the boat into the slit in order to “toss it on the waves” and tell the story.

Craft Two: Pop-up Swirl Snake
You will need:
- Paper Plates
- Crayons or markers
- Glue or tape
- Stickers or decorations
- Construction paper or cardstock
- Scissors
- Hole punch (optional)
- Pipe cleaners or yarn (optional)
Procedure:
- Draw a large swirl going from the center to the outside of the plate (or vice versa).
- Color in the plate with fun “snakelike” colors, or whatever pattern you prefer.
- Add verses and captions on a separate piece of paper, as desired. Add stickers or decorations as you see fit.
- Carefully cut the plate along the swirl line. This should allow the snake to hang like a spring.
- Draw or glue a face to the snake’s head. If desired, add a string or pipe cleaner to hang the decoration and remember the story.

Verses or Captions to Consider…
So take heart, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told. -Acts 27:25
God saved Paul from a snake!
God saved Paul from a shipwreck!
