Why a Ten Commandments series?
The Ten Commandments are one of the passages children’s ministry leaders ask about most — and one of the hardest to teach well. It’s easy for kids to hear a list of rules. It’s harder for them to hear the story underneath: a God who rescued His people and made them His own before He gave them a single command.
Built Different walks kids through that whole story — not just the list. The theme is construction: God’s commandments are the blueprint for a life built on the Rock.
What’s in the five weeks
- Week 1 — God chose us before He gave us His rules. God’s Blueprint Day at Sinai (Exodus 19:1–8). Belonging comes before instructions.
- Week 2 — God comes first. The Foundation: Commandments 1–4 (Exodus 20:1–11). A life stands on what it’s built on.
- Week 3 — God’s rules protect the people we love. The Walls: Commandments 5–10 (Exodus 20:12–17).
- Week 4 — Failure isn’t the end of God’s project. The Golden Calf and the God Who Rebuilds (Exodus 32).
- Week 5 — Jesus is the foundation that never fails. The Wise and Foolish Builders (Matthew 7:24–27).
The memory verse for the series is Matthew 7:24: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (BSB)
Built for real volunteers
Every week is fully scripted — read the script, follow the stage directions, and you’re ready to teach in minutes, not hours. Each lesson includes an opening game, an object lesson, the Bible story, discussion questions with leader notes, a craft, a coloring page, a word search, and a Parent Take-Home page. Supply lists use simple household and classroom items.
The full unit ships in two tracks: Kids (ages 6–12) and Preschool (ages 3–5) — same Bible stories and takeaways, each adapted for the age group.
