Most kids can recite the Lord’s Prayer long before they understand a single line of it. They say “hallowed be thy name” the way they say the Pledge of Allegiance — from memory, on autopilot, with no idea what the words mean. And who can blame them? Prayer is invisible. You can’t see it, hold it, or run an experiment on it. For a child, talking to Someone you can’t see is one of the hardest ideas in the whole Christian life.
So the goal of a good Lord’s Prayer lesson isn’t recitation. It’s teaching kids to actually pray — to understand what each line means and to believe that God really hears them. That’s a tall order for a volunteer with a mixed-age room and forty-five minutes on a Sunday morning.
Prayer Power Lab was built for exactly that moment. It’s a 5-week Sunday school curriculum that walks kids line by line through the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9–13) and makes every piece of it concrete, hands-on, and impossible to forget.
How it works: kids become prayer researchers
Each week, kids step into the role of junior researchers in a hands-on “prayer lab.” They run safe, simple demos any volunteer can pull off — bubbles, magnets, light, pressure — that give them a picture of how unseen power works. They form a Prayer Hypothesis, record their Field Notes, and earn a Toolbelt Badge for each part of the Lord’s Prayer they learn.
The whole prayer is mapped onto one word kids can carry for life — PRAY!
- Praise — Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name
- Reign — Your kingdom come, your will be done
- Ask — Give us today our daily bread; forgive us our debts
- Yield — Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil
- ! — Amen — a faith-filled “yes” to a God who hears
By the end of five weeks, a child walks out with the Lord’s Prayer memorized, five badges earned, and — more importantly — a real understanding that God hears them when they pray.

The Lord’s Prayer 5-lesson Overview
Week 1 — Start with Praise: Our Father Is Holy Bible Story: Jesus Teaches About Prayer (Matthew 6:5–9). Kids discover that God is our holy Father — close to us and worthy of worship — and learn they can praise His name and trust His fatherly care.
Week 2 — Kingdom First: Your Way Be Done Bible Story: God’s Kingdom & Will (Matthew 6:10). Kids learn that God is King now, and that they can pray for His will to happen here just as it does in heaven — and choose His way in everyday decisions.
Week 3 — Daily Bread, Daily Grace: Ask and Forgive Bible Story: God Provides and Forgives (Matthew 6:11–12). Kids see that God meets their needs — and that their biggest need is forgiveness. They learn to ask God for what they need and to forgive others as He forgives them.
Jesus teaches about prayer (Matthew 6:5–9) — a complete, ready-to-teach lesson with printable activities, free from the Sunday School Store.
Week 4 — Guide and Guard: Deliver Us from Evil Bible Story: God Guides and Rescues (Matthew 6:13). Kids learn that God never tempts them; He protects them and always shows a way out. They practice turning to God’s Word and asking for help when they’re tempted.
Week 5 — All Glory to God: Amen! Bible Story: Forever King (1 Chronicles 29:11). Kids learn that all glory belongs to God forever, and that saying “Amen” means believing God hears and keeps His promises.
Every week points back to Jesus: it’s because of His death and resurrection that we can come to the Father at all.
Built for the volunteer, not the expert
If you teach in a small church, you already know the constraints — one volunteer, a handful of kids spread across several ages, supplies you have to round up yourself, and not much time to prep. Prayer Power Lab is written for that room:
- Print and teach. Everything kid-facing — scripts, coloring pages, activity sheets, crafts — prints straight from the file. No advance ordering.
- Read-aloud scripts. The teacher script is written out for you, stage directions included. You read it; the lesson runs.
- Two age tracks. A Kids edition (ages 6–12) and a PreK edition (ages 3–5), so the same five weeks work for your whole ministry.
- Simple supplies. The lab demos use common household and dollar-store items, listed week by week.
