As I was reflecting about our homeschool this year, I knew something was missing, but I just couldn’t put my finger on it. Then one day, as I was praying, it came to me! Prayer! Prayer was missing from our homeschool. I couldn’t believe that I left out such an integral part of our day! We started last year praying before we started school, but, somehow, it got left out.

Well, that needed to change! So, how could I add more prayer into our day? Well, praying together before school is a good start. But, I really wanted our prayer time to be more focused, so I made up some prayer cards. These are just some simple things to think about before prayer and then to pray about. I was really surprised that my 4 year old understood the thoughts and fully participated in the exercise. Here are the items of prayer that we go through together:
- God is great because…
- I thank God for…
- God I need help with…
- I’m sorry for…
- I’m praying for (church member)…
- I’m praying for (family member)…
These general thoughts will keep my kids’ thoughts, not just on asking God for things, but to think of others and to glorify God for who He is.
