Bulletin Insert: 10 Reasons To Bring Your Child To Sunday School

by Tony Kummer | Teacher Tips | Print Print |

Sunday School Attendance 10 ReasonsWhat follows is a bulletin insert I created for my church. I wanted to write out some benefits of Sunday School attendance as an encouragement for families. I kept the list simple so it would print on a half sheet of paper.

Directions: Simply click on the preview image to download this file as a printer friendly PDF. I’ve also upload it as a Word document if you would like to tweak it for your own church. Here is are alternate Black & White versions (PDFWord).

Here is the full text of the flyer. I’ve love to hear your feedback, just leave a comment below.

While sleeping late can be nice, have you considered the benefits of Sunday School attendance for your child. Here are 10 reasons to make it a priority in your family.

1. Age Targeted Teaching: Where else can your kids get Biblical instruction that’s focused toward their developmental abilities?

2. Friends: In Sunday School, your child will build positive friendships with their peers by discovering God’s Word together.

3. It’s Fun: Sunday School is not Disney Land, but our teachers do work hard to teach the Bible in ways that are relevant and fun for kids.

4. Spiritual Mentors: A dedicated teacher can be a Christian role model who supports you and helps inspire the faith of your child.

5. Systematic Bible Learning: Our curriculum is designed to give a broad foundation, so children will understand how all the parts of Scripture point to Christ.

6. Praying Teachers: Our teachers consistently pray for your child’s faith to grow. Coming to Sunday School gives another occasion for God to answer those requests.

7. Big Reward For a Small Investment: If you’re already coming to church, just come a little earlier. That one change will equal over 800 hours of additional Christian teaching before your child graduates.

8. Send the Right Message: Making Sunday School a priority shows your kids that God’s Word really does matter more than pillow-time.

9. Adult Bible Fellowship: While the children enjoy their class, you can fellowship with other adults in your own Bible study group.

10. You’ll Be On Time: Families who come to Sunday School always get to worship on time. It’s the easiest way to avoid being late.

Thanks SO MUCH for the Big 10 helps!
Plan to use it as a bulletin insert this Sunday with High Attendance just around the corner in October.
Great timing! I, very much, appreciate the insights I gain from your website.
Don’t change a thing!
May God bless your ministry to us and to the world.

I love this printout and will be using it (with a few tweaks) here in the next couple of weeks but you know what I think would be great? 10 Reasons to teach Sunday school. I will try and tweak it for that reason too!

Thanks for providing a word copy. I love the reasons but we have some of the teaching hour during our worship time (2s through Kinder) and then Elementary has their teaching time AFTER worship when the rest of the church has traditional “Sunday School”.
So the word format will allow me to tweak without having to re-create a list that works for our church schedule.
Thanks again for all your support through your website. It has been a blessing to me.

I thank you for this insert. I am new to the position of Children’s Ministry and I am in need of resources. Fortunately, this came in time for our Council of Ministries meeting this evening.

great job! Thanks! I’m going to reprint with credit to you on my blog if that’s ok? Most of my parents get their information from me there and on Facebook.

I have one or two children in my class that are brought consistantly to SS late. We can’t wait for these children to get there to begin SS. As you know, every minute is vital and we begin our intro activity at 9:00 a.m. One or two are there at 9:00. The rest of the children come in by 9:10 or 9:15. One child comes in at 9:25 and therefore misses the intro and part of the lesson. I send emails out to the parents each week keeping them up to date on what we are learning and at the beginning of the new SS year I emphasized that SS begins at 9:00 A.M. and that we begin teaching at 9:00 A.M. How to I convince these parents to get their children there on time without nagging? I think one of the problems is that their parents have breakfast in their adult class at the beginning of SS and “don’t” start the lesson until 9:15 or so.

What suggestions do any of you have? Of course, I don’t want to offend the parents in any way.

Tony,

Love this idea and it’s very practical. I’m wondering about the calculation of the 6,000 hours. Also, this is a PDF, and chance you could post a .doc we could customize.

Blessings.

Michelle,
I just had one of those duh moments. The right hours is 832 (16 years x 52 weeks x 1 hour per week). Some churches don’t really teach the little ones, so I wanted to keep that a broad number.

You can get the doc file linked above in the post.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Here are the changes some churches are using to better fit their situation:

9. Free Snacks : Each week we provide gold fish crackers and apple juice. We feed them; body and soul.

10. Free Music & Drama Lessons: Each Sunday, the kids will spend time learning traditional Christian Hymns. In November and December, they will prepare a Christmas Pageant.
