Why is children’s ministry so important?
We receive numerous questions regarding local church ministry, especially from church leaders in the children’s department. Here, we address the most common inquiries and highlight the significance of children’s ministry.
1. Kids ministry can grow your church 🌱
Children’s ministry plays a pivotal role in church growth. Firstly, children are the church’s future, and it’s crucial to nurture and cultivate their faith from a young age so they can continue to flourish in their spiritual journey as they grow older. Additionally, children’s ministry presents a tremendous opportunity for outreach. By creating a safe and welcoming environment for kids, we can attract families without involvement in the church. Furthermore, ministering to the needs of families with young children helps build a strong and supportive community within the church. As elementary-aged children transition into middle and high school, a thriving kids ministry will organically contribute to the growth of your youth ministry.
2. Ministry to children makes an eternal impact ✝️
Children’s ministry is one of the church’s most vital ministries. It helps children learn about God and establish a personal relationship with Him. Through Bible lessons, memory verses, songs, and prayer, kids embrace faith in Jesus. Each week, they draw closer to God and deepen their understanding of His love for them. Parents also play a significant role in their child’s faith journey by discussing what they learned in children’s ministry and applying it to daily life. Praying together as a family further nurtures children’s faith. For more statistics on children’s ministry, read more here.
3. Kids matter to Jesus Christ 😇
Scripture emphasizes how Jesus cherished spending time with children and blessed them. In Matthew 19:14, Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” This highlights Jesus’ immense value on children and their integral role in His ministry. Mark 10:13-16 further reveals Jesus’ loving and gracious nature towards children, as He laid His hands on them and prayed for them. Jesus saw children as precious to God, deserving of love, and a significant focus within the Kingdom of God. Read more here for Bible verses about Jesus and His teachings on children.
How can you boost your children’s ministry?
1. Growing your children’s ministry should be a priority.👀
Churches should prioritize children’s ministry outreach as it proves to be one of the most effective ways to share the gospel. According to a study by The Barna Group, 88% of people who accept Christ do so before 18. This statistic demonstrates the significance of investing in children’s ministry. Additionally, children are more receptive to the gospel than adults, as they are genuinely curious about God and Christianity. Therefore, reaching out to children at church presents an excellent opportunity to introduce them to Jesus and foster their spiritual growth.
2. Providing a fun and safe environment for kids is essential for local churches.⛪
As ministry leaders and children’s pastors, we understand the importance of ensuring the safety of children while in our care. Parents rightfully expect their children to be secure, allowing them to have fun and explore all that God has to offer. We prioritize creating an environment where kids can learn, grow, and thrive without any concerns about their safety.
3. Outreach events and programs can grow your children’s ministry outreach.⚽
Numerous effective outreach programs can contribute to the growth of your children’s ministry. Sports outreach, for instance, involves taking your church’s message to children through sports they are interested in. You can organize clinics or tournaments and set up booths where kids can learn more about your church. Another impactful outreach program is Vacation Bible School (VBS). This week-long event allows children to come to your church and learn about the Bible through songs, games, crafts, and stories that teach them about Jesus Christ. Additionally, many churches offer day camps throughout the year, providing an excellent opportunity to connect with and serve your local community.
