Ask students, Who knows what holiday is coming up tomorrow? (Presidents’ Day.)
Why do we celebrate Presidents’ Day?
If you don’t like the President, does that mean you don’t have to celebrate Presidents’ Day?
Presidents’ Day was originally made to celebrate George Washington’s birthday, our first president, but as Christians, we can also use Presidents’ Day to remind us to pray for the current President.
(Read or summarize 1 Timothy 2:1-4.)
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”
The Bible tells us to pray for our king, or, in our case, the President, and everyone who is a leader in the country.
Whether we like the President and our leaders right now or not, they have a big job leading the country, and God wants us to pray for them that they do a good job and make the right decisions.
Let’s pray for the President and our leaders right now.
Closing Prayer
Father God, we know that leading the country is a big job and so we pray that You will be with our President and our leaders. Give them the strength to carry out their duties and the wisdom to do the right things that You want them to do. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
