The Jesus Film Project has released a short animated film titled “My Last Day.” It’s the story of Christ’s crucifixion through the eyes of one of the criminals who died beside him on that day. Adding simple hand motions is an easy way to help kids memorize scripture. These don’t have to be elaborate or even graceful. The key is to connect the body movement with the concept as the kids recite their bible memory verse. Here is a recent example from Deuteronomy 6:5 in our children’s church. This video clip is from the Jesus Storybook Bible, by far my favorite for kids. This clip tells the story of Noah and God’s great rescue. At some point they’ll publish these animations on a DVD, but for now there are only a few available online. I’ve always wondered about the difference between arts and crafts. Often these two words are joined in one phrase but are actually different concepts. I just caught this video on YouTube from John Piper about Bible teaching with non-literate people groups. I think the topic has a strong connection to children’s ministry and how we relate God’s Word to younger children who haven’t learned to read yet. Dr. Piper goes into many details related to missions work, but there is an obvious connections with kids ministry. It reminded me of the importance of story telling as a mode of teaching kids.
