Learning Aim: Only Worship God.

  1. Paper
  2. Scissors
  3. Glue
  4. Masking Tape
  5. Playdoh
  6. Stapler

You say the Italicized words.  Non-italicized words are directions.
Bible Story
Open your Bible to 1 Kings 11. You will need a paper heart.
Say, Solomon was a very wise king. God gave him so much wisdom that he wrote the book of Proverbs. Show the heart. Solomon loved God with all his heart.
However, after Solomon had been king for many years he forgot to put God first. Tear the heart into 4 pieces. Solomon started to love and worship other things more than he loved God! This meant that God didn’t have his whole heart anymore, it was divided into pieces.
God had to punish Solomon for forgetting that God should be number 1 in his life. God wants us to only worship Him. Never forget that God is number one in our lives and that who should only worship Him. He deserves your whole heart!
Heart Puzzles
Give each child a paper heart. Let them cut it apart into 4 or 5 pieces. Then let them put the pieces back together like a puzzle and glue or tape to a piece of construction paper.
Say, Solomon knew that God deserved his whole heart and that he should only worship God. He made a mistake whenever he started worshiping others. The good news is that even whenever we make mistakes God still loves us. He puts all the pieces of our heart back together so that we can worship Him again!
Worship God Hopscotch
Make a hopscotch with masking tape on the floor. Show the kids how to hop through the hopscotch. Whenever they get to the end of the hopscotch they should say, ‘Only Worship God!’ and cheer.
Say, Good job hopscotching! Always remember the words that you said at the end of the hopscotch: Only Worship God!
Tim Stealers
Give each child playdoh. Talk about different things that they may be tempted to worship instead of God. This could be TV, a video game, or toys. Ask the kids for suggestions as well. Have each child make one of these things out of the playdoh and then squish it.
Say, It’s ok to enjoy other things but God is the only one that deserves all our worship.
Now have all of the kids make a heart.
Say, God wants all of your praise. Give Him your whole heart, not just pieces of it.
Clapping Hands
Trace both of the child’s hands on construction paper and cut them out. Staple the hands together at the wrist so that whenever they open and close they look like clapping hands. Write ‘Worship God’ on the hands.
Say, Solomon learned that we should only worship God. Put these hands somewhere in your house that will help you remember to only worship God.
Closing the Lesson
Say, Today we learned that we should only worship God. How can you worship God this week? Close in prayer.
