There are several great sheep stories in the Bible, and fortunately, sheep lend themselves to great crafts! These crafts are geared towards John 11 and Jesus as the good shepherd, but they could easily be used for lessons on Psalm 23, the Lost Sheep, or other sheep references. A “Sheep Cuppet” can help reenact the story or remind us that we are sheep. A “Sheepy Mask” allows children to play the part of sheep. Let’s get crafty!

Craft One: Sheep Cuppet (Cup Puppet)

You will need:

  • Cups (styrofoam, Solo, or clear)
  • Cotton balls or cotton stuffing
  • Construction paper or cardstock
  • Glue or tape
  • Scissors
  • Optional facial features (google eyes, pipe cleaner ears, etc.)
  • Markers or crayons

Procedure:
1. Create a face for the sheep, cutting a base shape out of paper. Add google eyes and drawn features as desired.
2. Glue or tape the face onto the cup.
3. Add pipe cleaner “ears” to the top of the cup.
4. Glue cotton balls or cotton stuffing all around the cup to create fluffy sheep “wool.”
5. Add verses and captions as desired. Use as a puppet to tell the story, or simply as a fun decoration.

Craft Two: Feeling Sheepy Mask
You will need:

  • Paper Plates
  • Crayons or markers
  • Glue or tape
  • Cotton balls or cotton stuffing
  • Google eyes (Optional)
  • Construction paper or cardstock
  • Scissors

  1. Decorate the paper plate with facial features, drawn or 3-D (google eyes etc.). Alternatively, cut out the center of the plate so that the child’s face is the face.
  2. Cut and glue ears to the back of the plate.
  3. Glue cotton balls or stuffing all around the outer edge of the plate to resemble fluffy sheep wool.
  4. To create a mask, attach a long popsicle stick or yarn to the plate.
  5. Add verses and captions, and use the sheep to remember that we are sheep, following the Good Shepherd, Jesus!

Verses or Captions to Consider…

I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. -John 10:11

I am Jesus’s little lamb!

Jesus is the Good Shepherd!

The Lord is my Shepherd!
