Use this Palm Sunday children’s sermon to inspire kids to welcome Jesus into their hearts.
Scripture: John 12:12-14; Revelation 3:20
Needed: a volunteer to knock on a door (optional: palm branches)
Children’s Sermon
Gather all the children at the front of the sanctuary. If you have palm branches, hand one to each child. If you don’t have branches, tell them to pretend that they each have a palm branch.
(Read, John 12:12-14.)
“The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem. They took palm branches and went out to meet Him, shouting, ‘Hosanna!’ ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ‘Blessed is the king of Israel! Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it…”
Did you hear that? People were waving palm branches as He rode into town on a donkey.
So, because today is Palm Sunday, let’s pretend that Jesus is coming into our church. Wave your palm branches for Him. Cheer for Him!
Okay, great. Now, I want to read you one more verse about Jesus coming somewhere.
(Read Revelation 3:20, NIV.)
Jesus says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with Me.”
Jesus says He’s standing at the door knocking and He wants to come in and eat with us. What door do you think Jesus is knocking on?
Right now, I want to you imagine that Jesus is knocking on the door of your heart.
(Your volunteer should knock on a door at this point.)
Imagine opening the door to your heart and waving palm branches as Jesus comes in. If we open our hearts to Jesus, He says He’ll come in and be with us.
Closing Prayer
Jesus, thank You for wanting to be with us. Help us to always open our hearts to You. Amen.
