It’s road trip season, so I wanted to brainstorm a curriculum theme based on the popular GPS navigation apps kids see their parents using. That brainstorming led to the MAPS curriculum, which I had just finished editing.
We’ve just launched it at the Sunday School Store, and I couldn’t be more excited about it. It’s called “Maps: 4-Week Children’s Ministry Curriculum,” and it’s designed to guide kids on their spiritual journey using the Bible as their ultimate map.
Enjoy this free sample lesson. The complete unit outline is below.
In today’s world, our children are bombarded with countless directions and choices. From friends, media, school, and even technology, it’s easy for them to feel lost or unsure of which path to follow. That’s why this curriculum is so crucial. “Maps” uses engaging Bible stories to teach kids that God gives us the best directions for navigating life. Each lesson connects the timeless wisdom of the Bible with familiar concepts like GPS and mapping apps, making it relatable and captivating for modern kids.
Week 1: “Noah’s Navigation: Following God’s Rescue Plan”
We kick off with the incredible story of Noah and the ark. Kids will learn about obedience and how following God’s directions leads to safety and salvation. Just as Noah trusted and obeyed God, we are reminded that Jesus is our ultimate salvation, guiding us to eternal life.
Week 2: “Moses’ Map: God’s Commandments for Life”
Next, we dive into the story of Moses and the Ten Commandments. This lesson highlights how God’s commandments provide a moral compass for our lives. We’ll also emphasize that Jesus fulfilled the law and offers us grace, showing that believing in Him leads us to eternal life.
Week 3: “Jonah’s Detour: Finding the Right Path”
In week three, we explore Jonah’s story, teaching kids about the consequences of running away from God’s direction and the blessings that come from obedience. Jonah’s journey shows us the importance of repentance and following Jesus, who calls us to the right path.
Week 4: “Traveling Mercies: Love in Action”
We wrap up the series with the Parable of the Good Samaritan. This lesson is all about loving and helping others, demonstrating that following God’s Word means putting love into action. We’ll connect this to the ultimate act of love shown by Jesus, who died for our sins and calls us to believe in Him.
Each lesson is packed with engaging storytelling, hands-on activities, and clear Gospel connections. We’ve ensured that the teacher directions are easy to follow, and the script is perfect for capturing the kids’ attention. Plus, we’ve included fun elements like making faces, sounds, and simple physical activities to keep the children involved and excited.
I believe this curriculum is an invaluable resource for any church committed to nurturing the faith and future of their youngest members. “Maps” will not only help children understand the importance of following God’s directions but also instill in them the truth that Jesus is the way to eternal life.
I’m so excited for you to try “Maps: 4-Week Children’s Ministry Curriculum” in your Sunday school or children’s ministry. Let’s guide our kids on the right path together, helping them navigate life with God’s Word as their ultimate map.
