This printable is part of our free series of Ten Commandments Coloring Pages for kids. It’s part of our large selection of free resources that teach the 10 commandments for kids.
This coloring sheet illustration for the Third Commandment shows a Hebrew child pointing toward heaven as if giving praise to God. Two other children are looking side-eyed and appear to making fun of the devote child for worshiping God. The scripture quote reads, “You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God.”
You can compare the NIV translation below which says “misuse the name” and the ESV translation which says “not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.” Our illustration uses the more direct for that is consistent with modern English usage.
“You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
Exodus 20:7 NIV
“You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.
Exodus 20:7 ESV
This series is currently in process (February – March 2019). Once complete we will upload a combined PDF document with all the pages in one simple download. Be sure to subscribe by email so you don’t miss that announcement.
Hi, my name is Carol Nigh. Love the Ten Commandments coloring pages!. I printed 1st & 2nd commandments. I tried to print the 3rd commandment but it was too small a size of post card. I needed the letter size (oh, the 1st & 2nd commandments printed letter size). I enlarged it but still came out the same small size. I tried & I tried & to no avail. I’ve just subscribed to Ministry-to-Children. I am grateful for the free printables. I’m not a computer savvy person but I know i capable of doing some the basics. I would appreciate a response & some help.
Thanks & God Bless.
If you use the PDF download it should work on any printer setup — or if you can wait another week we’ll have the combined series in a single print-off to make it even easier.
