The story of Daniel in the den of lions is a great one for acting, crafting, and recalling the power of prayer. These crafts help to tell and remember Daniel and the power of God’s protection. A reversible puppet recounts the figures in the story. A lion mask is a fun and creative way to consider the threat in the story and how God rescued Daniel. Let’s get crafty!
Craft One: Reversible Puppet
You will need:
- Paper Bags
- Construction paper or cardstock
- Glue or tape
- Optional Extra elements (yarn, fabric, etc.)
- Scissors
- Decorative elements as desired
- Markers or crayons
Procedure:
1. Decorate one side of the paper bag to represent Daniel (or another character from the story, like Darius or the advisors), adding facial elements, “clothing,” and other items as desired.
2. On the other side of the bag, add decorations to resemble a lion (or another figure from the story).
3. Add verses or captions on or attached to the bag.
4. Use the puppet to tell and reenact the story of Daniel!

Craft Two: Lion Mask
You will need:
- Crayons or markers
- Glue or tape
- Stickers or decorations
- Construction paper or cardstock
- Scissors
- Paper Plates
- Pipe cleaners or yarn
Procedure:
- Decorate the plate with facial features and colors to look like a lion.
- Cut out strips of paper in “lion-like” colors such as orange and yellow.
- Fold the paper strips accordion-style, or curl around a marker or pencil. Glue the strips around the outer perimeter of the plate for a “mane.”
- Add verses and captions, and, if desired, a popsicle stick or string to make the lion more mask-like. For a usable mask, cut holes out of the eyes for visibility, as well.

Verses or Captions to Consider…
“He delivers and rescues; he works signs and wonders in heaven and on earth, he who has saved Daniel from the power of the lions.” -Daniel 6:27
God protects and saves me!
God shut the lions’ mouths! He protects me!
