Be Patient! The Fruit of the Spirit Part 4

YouTube video

These crafts are designed to communicate the meaning and importance of patience. Patience is difficult but essential to cultivate. These activities require a bit of patience to complete, but the end result should be worth it! A “Snail Mosaic” requires patient and careful placement to decorate an animal that reminds us to take things slowly. A Color by Numbers creates an opportunity to have design patience and let someone else finish the work. Let’s get crafty!

Craft One: “Snail Mosaic”

You will need:

  • Paper plates
  • Construction paper or cardstock
  • Small squares of paper or tissue
  • Staples, glue, or tape
  • Pipe Cleaners (optional)
  • Scissors
  • Decorative elements as desired
  • Markers or crayons

Procedure:
1. Decide what design to use for the mosaic. This example describes a snail, but another slow creature or an entirely different picture would work fine. If using the snail, draw a swirl to show the snail “shell” on the paper plate.
2. If paper pieces are not cut ahead of time (suggested for younger students), have students cut colorful construction paper into small squares, or a variety of shapes.
3. Glue the squares onto the plate, creating a colorful design. Encourage kids to cover as much space as possible, which requires planning and patience!
4. Cut and glue or tape a head for the snail, using a pipe cleaner for antennae, if desired.
5. Add extra decorations (stickers, gems, etc.) and a Bible verse or caption to remember the importance of patience!

Craft Two: “Color by Numbers”

You will need:

  • Permanent marker or pen
  • Crayons or markers
  • Pencils
  • Construction paper or cardstock
  • Stickers or decorative items (Optional)

Procedure:

  1. Have older students draw an outline design on cardstock or paper, as simple or elaborate as they prefer to make it.
  2. Develop a code that assigns a number to each color.
  3. Write numbers in the spaces on the picture where the colors will need to go.
  4. Add verses or captions to the paper.
  5. Pass along to a younger student to finish the job by coloring the picture. There is patience involved in coloring, counting, and waiting for work to be completed!

Verses or Captions to Consider…

I waited patiently for the Lord; he inclined to me and heard my cry. -Psalm 40:1

The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
-Psalm 103:8

Be patient!

Wait on the Lord…God is Patient With Us!

Patience…Waiting with Contentment!
