Joy in Jesus – The Fruit of the Spirit Part 2
These crafts focus on joy, and how we can have and express our joy as Christians. Joy is not just a temporary feeling based on circumstances, but a lasting sense of hope and peace in the presence of the Lord. As we are called to “make a joyful noise” to God, these crafts are fun and simple noisemakers. A “Joy Shaker” uses dried rice and foil to make a sort of maraca, and a “Joyful Noise Kazoo” recycles a cardboard tube for a fun instrument. Let’s get crafty!

Craft One: “Joy Shaker Noisemaker”
You will need:
- Construction Paper or cardstock
- Cups (paper, styrofoam, plastic) or plates
- Staples, glue, or tape
- Pipe Cleaners (optional)
- Aluminum foil (optional)
- Scissors
- Rubber band (recommended)
- Dried rice, beans, or pasta noodles
- Decorative elements as desired
- Markers or crayons
Procedure:
1. Cut a small square or rectangle, and add a verse or caption.
2. Decorate the outside of the cup with stickers or markers.
3. Place rice, beans, or pasta noodles inside the cup for the noisemaker element.
4. Place paper or aluminum foil on the top of the cup, and secure with a rubber band or pipe cleaner. You might want to reinforce with tape or staples, as well. Shake, and make a joyful noise!
*Alternative option: use two paper plates stapled together with noisemaker in the center.

Craft Two: “Joyful Noise Kazoo”
You will need:
- Paper towel or toilet paper rolls
- Wax paper
- Pipe cleaners (optional)
- Tape or glue
- Crayons or markers
- Scissors
- Construction paper or cardstock
- Stickers or decorative items.
Procedure:
- Decorate a toilet paper or paper towel tube with stickers and colors (if using paper towel tube, it is recommended to cut the bottom).
- Add verses or captions with extra paper, or write them directly on the tube.
- Cut a small hole in the side of the tube for sound flow.
- Place wax paper over the top of the tube, securing with a rubber band. Trim excess if necessary.
- Hum into the open end of the tube, and enjoy your new instrument!
