Jonah and the Fish – Biblical Beasts Part 4
Use this printable Bible craft ideas when teaching the story of Jonah for Kids in your Sunday School or Children’s Ministry.
The story of Jonah is, of course, remarkable for his temporary stay in a fish belly. It’s also an important reminder of God’s omnipresence and power. We can’t hide or run away from God…there’s nowhere that He is not, and that’s a comforting thing! God cares for us and is gracious and merciful. These crafts provide two methods of making a fun fish. A “Swallowing Fish” has a hinged jaw to open and close. An “Inside Out Fish” provides a reversible fish plate. Let’s get crafty!
Craft One: Swallowing Fish
You will need:
- Clothespin
- Construction paper or cardstock
- Glue, tape, or staples
- Scissors
- Decorative elements as desired (stickers, jewels, etc.)
- Markers or crayons
Procedure:
1. Draw a fish shape on a piece of construction paper or cardstock.
2. Add features to the fish (eyes, scales, etc.) as desired.
3. Add verses or captions as desired.
4. Cut off the bottom part of the fish jaw.
5. Use glue and/or tape to attach both parts of the fish (top and bottom jaw) to a clothespin. Move to make the fish mouth open and close.

Craft Two: Inside Out Fish
You will need:
Happy Birthday, Church! — Acts 2:1–21 lesson with printable activities for ages 6–12.
- Paper Plates
- Crayons or markers
- Glue or tape
- Google eyes, gems, etc.
- Construction paper or cardstock
- Scissors
Procedure:
- Cut a wedge out of the front of the paper plate. This will serve to create the mouth and tail of the fish.
- Decorate one side of the plate with eyes, color, scales, etc to be the fish outside.
- Decorate the other side of the plate to resemble what might be inside of the fish (Jonah, other fish, insides of the fish, etc.).
- Attach the tail and other features as desired.
- Add verses and captions, and use the fish to recall the story of Jonah. Alternate option: Create two plates, and place a Jonah figure within.

Verses or Captions to Consider…
The Lord is gracious and merciful,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
The Lord is good to all,
and his mercy is over all that he has made. -Psalm 145:8-9
God is gracious and merciful! He sent a fish to swallow Jonah!
The Lord rescued Jonah…He saves me, too!
