Anyone who works with kids knows the answer. Not only can they memorize scripture, often then can do it with more ease than adults. Here is a recent video from my son reciting his Bible verses from preschool.
Here’s the Bible quote he was reciting from Genesis 1:1-3:
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.
Certainly there is more to knowing God than learning a few Bible verses. But it’s a real confidence booster for younger kids and it does plant God’s thoughts in their minds.
That’s why I compiled this list of easy Bible memory verses which even very young children can learn by heart. For older kids, you can use scripture memory games to help them learn even long passages of God’s Word. My personal favorite is using children’s worship songs to help internalize scripture.
Of course, my son will likely need to learn this verse again several times in his life. That’s just the way route memory works. At the same time he is learning to think through the lens of scripture.
It’s like Jesus said in Matthew 21:16 “”‘From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise’?”
