The “fruit of the Spirit” is a term used in the Bible to describe the character qualities that God desires to see in His people. The fruit of the Spirit includes things like love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. When we allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives, these qualities will begin to grow and develop in us.
The fruit of the Spirit is listed in Galatians 5:22-23 as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Galatians 5:22-23 NIrV But the fruit the Holy Spirit produces is love, joy and peace. It is being patient, kind and good. It is being faithful (23) and gentle and having control of oneself. There is no law against things of that kind.
Living a life characterized by these qualities is what it means to be “led by the Spirit.” And it’s only possible as we allow God’s Spirit to control our lives instead of our own sinful nature. Thank God that His Holy Spirit can empower us to do what we could never do on our own!
